Dan Curry brings significant experience in the design of educational facilities for both public and private institutions. Understanding the impact a well-designed environment has on its occupants, he excels in renewing aging buildings as high-performance and inspiring learning environments. He admires the passion for design exhibited by Charles and Ray Eames, Steve Jobs, and Buckminster Fuller. “They believed that design, of even ordinary and commonplace objects of day to day life, enriches our lives. Their passion was relentless.”
He found the design process for the new Living Learning Residence Hall 6 at Gallaudet University to be inspiring. “For many of these students, this will be the first time and place they will live on their own in a deaf community.” He notes that the social and environmental goals set by the client led to a design that fosters a strong sense of community and cultural identity while it promotes individual responsibility. “It is truly satisfying to see a life unfold in a completed project.”
