Larry Barr, AIA

Senior Principal

Larry Barr has over 25 years of experience leading the architectural transformation of historic buildings. Drawing inspiration from such designers as Richard Meier, Luis Barragán, Brad Cloepfil and others, his work has focused on heritage projects and features many cultural venues for major institutional clients throughout the country.

Of the countless projects he’s overseen at QEA, he regards his experience on the renovation of the three main halls in the Kennedy Center as perhaps his most rewarding. “The caliber of people on both the client and consultant team is unmatched,” he notes. “To design spaces that are vessels for the public engagement of art, especially in the Federal realm, gives me a sense of responsibility that is unbelievably stimulating and rewarding.

To transform an obsolete building into something useful and meaningful, you have to study it, listen to it, and maximize its attributes.
