Tina
Roach named 20th Richard Morris Hunt Fellow

Tina Roach, AIA, LEED AP has been awarded the Richard Morris Hunt
Fellowship which is sponsored by the American Architectural Foundation
and The French Heritage Society. The fellowship is awarded to architects
pursuing a career in historic preservation. The award is named for
Richard Morris Hunt, the first American architect to study at the
École des Beaux-Arts and one of the most renowned 19th century
American architects. Tina will follow a six-month work/study program
in France with studies focused on the synergies and conflicts between
sustainable design and historic preservation. |

Tom
Jester Appointed National Peer to GSA Design Excellence Program
November 2008
The Commissioner of the
Public Building Service of the General Services Administration has
appointed QE|A Associate, Tom Jester, AIA, to serve on its National
Register of Peer Professionals for the Design Excellence Program.
He will provide expertise in Historic Preservation assisting GSA
select lead designers and teams, as well as critique concept designs.

Renewed
Eisenhower Theater Opens to Applause
October 2008
After 16 months of construction, the John F. Kennedy Center for
the Performing Arts held the official re-opening of the Eisenhower
Theater October 2-5, 2008. The $18 million renewal of the theater
was designed by QE|A and retains and improves the intimate feel
of the hall which is the Center’s primary dramatic venue.
The Eisenhower project marks the third major theater renovation
by the firm at the Kennedy Center - following the Opera House and
Concert Hall. |

October 2008
The Sant Ocean Hall opened
September 27th in the National Museum of Natural History’s
central exhibition halls which were renovated by QE|A. Over six
years in the planning, the renovation of the galleries, which are
located off of the museum's rotunda, reinstated the original beaux-arts
features within the 23,000-square-foot space, including moldings,
doorways and paint colors, while adding escalators linking the hall
to the museum's lower level. |

Marquette wins 2008 Community Redevelopment Project Award
September
2008
QE|A's reuse
and rehabilitation of the Pere Marquette Depot was recognized by
the Michigan State Housing Development Authority for its measurable
community impact in returning the existing downtown building to
productive use for the community.

Armory
Arts Village a Finalist for NHRA Award of Excellence September
2008
The National Housing & Rehabilitation Association recently announced
Armory Arts Village in Jackson, Michigan is one of five finalists
nationwide for the 2008 J. Timothy Anderson Award for Excellence in
Historic Rehabilitation in the category of "Affordable Housing
(Large)."
The association recognized The Enterprise Group of Jackson; Excel
Realty Investors LLC of Shaker Heights, Ohio; and QE|A of Ann Arbor
for efforts to convert the former state prison and National Guard
armory into loft apartments, galleries and studios for artists.
The winner will be announced at an awards reception Oct. 27 in Boston.

The reconstruction of
George Washington's Distillery at Dogue Run Farm, part of the Mount
Vernon Estate, was honored with awards from the Virginia Society
AIA, AIA Northern Virginia, and Wood Design & Building
magazine. QE|A led the authentic reconstruction, which utilized
late-18th century techniques and materials.
