In addition to revitalizing an inner city neighborhood, the 71 Garfield project in the Sugar Hill District of Detroit, demonstrates the possibility for sustainable redevelopment of an historic structure. QEA transformed a fire damaged vacant building into a mixed use facility with artists’ studios and live/work lofts. The building utilizes a geothermal HVAC system, rooftop photovoltaic panels and interior finishes include both salvaged and recycled materials.
