The National Academy of Sciences received a sophisticated makeover while maintaining its original design and materials palette. In an article for the November 2013 issue of Stone Wolrd, Sara Garafalo reviews Quinn Evans Architect's work to provide new stone flooring in the the modernization program to complement and enhance the existing stonework found in this historic Washington, DC building.  

According to Thomas Jester ofQuinn Evans Architects, the primary reason the stones were selected was to match the color and texture of the existing materials used in the original building’s Great Hall as well as within the existing galleries
