While attending the Michigan Library Association Conference, the theme of change was in the air. It occurred to me the recurrence of this idea throughout all of the MLA conferences I've attended. The librarians consistently advocate “we must change to survive”. Each generation of leadership approached it differently but the motivation and sincerity was the same.

This made we wonder what is it about change that seems uncomfortable. Is it because it can be associated with a win | loss dynamic? Is it because something is gained while something is lost? So for all of us to embrace change do we need to frame the outcomes as gains across the board gains and support each other accordingly. While not all change is good, the process of change is the one constant and a tremendous growth opportunity. That is a win / wins in my book.
