Quinn Evans Architects will be a platinum sponsor for the 2016 Docomomo_US National Symposium. This year's event, Beyond Modernism? Moving the Recent Past Forward, will be held on June 9 - 12 in Detroit, Michigan.
Docomomo is dedicated to the preservation of modern architecture, landscape, and design. The symposium will spotlight speeches by prominent advocates within the preservation community including architectural historians, architects, and educators. The event will also feature the organization’s first ever audience-interactive debate: Beyond Modernism?
Wayne State University will host the symposium in the Minoru Yamasaki designed and QEA restored McGregor Memorial Conference Center as well as Minoru Yamasaki’s DeRoy Auditorium Complex. Some highlights of the conference will include a keynote speech by Brian D. Conway, Michigan's State Historic Preservation Officer, entitled "Michigan Modern: Design that Shaped America"; 3 separate sessions on the following subjects: Why We Save New Formalism, Urban Renewal as Heritage and a debate on Beyond Modernism; as well as 6 tours of the surrounding Detroit, Ann Arbor, and Southfield area.
