The McGregor Memorial Pool by Quinn Evans Architects was recognized with a 2014 National Preservation Award by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. The rehabilitation of Minoru Yamasaki's modern masterpiece at Wayne State University has helped reinvigorate this ceremonial space, providing a beautiful backdrop for community events in the heart of midtown Detroit. Drawing inspiration from the original design and drawings, the team restored the pool’s character while employing new strategies and technology for improving its functionality. The pool and sculpture garden once again epitomize Yamasaki’s design philosophy of “serenity, surprise, and delight.”
