As construction nears completion on the Element Hotel at the Metropolitan Building, developers share what the hotel rooms will look like.
The $32 million renovation of the long-vacant Metropolitan Building in downtown Detroit is rolling into its final months and its developers are showing off the looks of the new extended-stay hotel expected to open by the end of the year.
Built in 1925, the 14-story structure at 33 John R St., between Woodward Avenue and Broadway Street, is being brought up to speed with 110 rooms, 7,000 square feet for retail and 2,000 square feet of meeting space. The establishment is Michigan's first Element Hotel, a brand of Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc. based in Stamford, Conn.
