Hollywood Cemetery
Richmond, Virginia
Heritage
 Project

Preserving historic community assets, improving visitor experience and providing long-term sustainability are vital elements in the complex master planning of Richmond’s landmark cemetery. Artfully balancing historic features with preservation techniques, our planners created new spaces for traditional burials, restored a city’s beloved resource and piqued interest in the community. The cemetery welcomes visitors into a revered resting place by enhancing the prominent Presidents Circle—home to Presidents James Monroe’s and John Tyler’s gravesites—preserved and restored with many of the notable features of the landscape. In concert with ongoing maintenance and conservation efforts, our team continues to link the past with future generations of visitors by creating new spaces and honoring the utilitarian rural style of the cemetery.

The Solution

“Quinn Evans has been instrumental in helping Hollywood preserve its past and plan its future. Their thoughtful design on central features such as Presidents’ Circle, the Palmer Chapel and the James River overlooks has brought a new level of public interest in the grounds and helped ensure Hollywood’s place in Richmond and US history.”
