The new Fluvanna HS was the culmination of a decade-long master plan, referred to as the Domino Plan, developed to provide updated facilities in a rural community near Charlottesville, VA.

The new High School was designed for an initial enrollment of 1,500, expandable to 1,750 with minimal change and ultimately to 2,500 with future additions for instructional space. As a comprehensive and consolidated high school, all existing and many new programs were presented through integrated core, exploratory, performing and fine arts, and career and technical instruction.
