The QEA library team is leading the renovation and expansion of the Norton Shores Branch Library to strengthen community education in Muskegon.

The centerpiece of the project is the design of an addition for Storyville, a library concept designed to foster early literacy and school readiness skills. The long-term strategic plan will also refresh the interior of the existing library to give it a new face for the community.

  • New Addition and strategic planning for existing building
  • 3,400 sf new addition + 17,675 sf existing building

QEA’s design for the Storyville addition to the Norton Shores Library is based on an interactive program for young children designed to engage them, their parents, and their caregivers through reading and playing together. Child-scaled vignettes of a store, theater, library, and boat enable children to imagine, invent, and role-play. Storyville is a place where books and purposeful play come together to provide valuable experiences that nurture young children and support parents and caregivers in their role as their child’s first and best teacher.
