The AIA|DC Awards Presentation was held December 16th to commemorate architectural design excellence from the Washington, DC area. QEA took home three awards from the event including an Award of Excellence in Historic Resources for the National Academy of Sciences, an Award of Merit in Historic Resources for the Sherman Building Reconstruction and an Award in Architecture for the Benjamin Franklin Museum.

This is a year of transition for QEA, one in which we have had the opportunity to celebrate and reflect upon the tremendous careers of two of our long-time leaders and colleagues as they retire. Baird Smith, FAIA, FAPT and Ilene Tyler, FAIA, FAPT. Both will continue to consult to the firm sharing their nationally renowned expertise in preservation and conservation.

"Twentieth-Century Building Materials: History and Conservation", edited by QEA's Tom Jester, received a stellar review in The Architect's Newspaper. This is quickly becoming a necessary reference for the profession as we look at preserving the mid-century modern buildings all around us.
