Our team returned the Peirce Mill, the only remaining 19th-century grist mill site in Washington, DC, to production and operation under renewed water supply and power. Embracing a holistic approach, we leveraged 21st century technologies and managed cultural resources to recreate the mill race and mill yard. Transformed into an authentic demonstration museum, the property provides a true, interpretative experience for visitors to explore and enjoy. The Cultural Landscape Report and Historic Structures Report guided our documentation of the site’s history and evolution, providing a roadmap for its restoration. Encompassing site work for both interpretive and visitor needs, the reintroduced historic road trace provides an accessible path to the mill and a modern multi-purpose bike and pedestrian trail throughout the property.
