Split Rock Lighthouse
Two Harbors, Minnesota
Heritage
 Project

Drawing from extensive historical research, our team developed a rich account of the physical changes to the landscape surrounding the lighthouse, beginning with its geological formation through its current condition. This effort helped to guide our rehabilitation efforts of the Split Rock Lighthouse historic site. We worked with project stakeholders, including the Minnesota Historical Society, to support the development of a vision and goals to enhance future visitor experiences. Utilizing primary and secondary sources, the Cultural Landscape Report provided an in-depth understanding of the site history and existing conditions, and identified the needs of the site’s managers.

The Solution

“The landscape treatment plan provides a vision to preserve and interpret the historic cultural landscape as a platform for an engaging, inspiring, and transformative experience that conveys the full complexity of the evolution of the light station landscape."
