Queries & Theories: Creating Equitable Communities

For our second Queries & Theories webcast (hosted live on June 18, 2020), Carl Elefante, FAIA, FAPT moderates as Dr. Mindy Thompson Fullilove, MD, social psychiatrist, author, and professor of Urban Policy and Health at The New School, and Saundra Little, AIA, LEED AP, NOMA, Director of Diversity & Inclusion and Principal at Quinn Evans, discuss social equity challenges in American cities, new models for revitalization, and how architects can serve as civic leaders.

Climate action will require retooling the built environment. This also presents an opportunity to address intransigent cultural, social, economic, and environmental issues in our communities. Our “Creating Equitable Communities” thought leaders explore:

How has the pandemic affected vulnerable communities, and what does this disruption reveal about our social networks?

What is the new relevance of the skill sets that architects bring to disrupted communities?

With Detroit as a case study, how can we effectively engage communities and address problems at the neighborhood scale? Can we come together for collective purpose?
