Hammond at Greenmount Park
Hammond at Greenmount Park
In response to community needs and in alignment with the Johnston Square Vision Plan, this innovative new building provides 109 units of workforce housing as well as a 9,000-sf space for the Enoch Pratt Free Library. A business center and multipurpose room are shared between The Hammond and the library to consolidate resources and activate the spaces throughout the day.
The Hammond at Greenmount Park is the first phase of a multiphase development led by Somerset Development Company, ReBUILD Metro, and the Rebuild Johnston Square Neighborhood Organization. Future phases will include a new park fronted by the library.
This development will be one for everyone: beautiful buildings, world-class park space, and a state-of-the-art library. This community deserves it, just like every other neighborhood across Baltimore.

Engaging the Community
Early in the design process, we facilitated community engagement meetings and site tours with Johnston Square residents to explain the project’s scope and intent and to solicit their input regarding how the new building could help meet neighborhood needs.

Sustainability for All
The Hammond is a fully electric building, with no on-site fossil fuel use; this is healthier for residents and the environment. Energy-saving measures include a robust building envelope and high-efficiency heating and cooling systems. A solar array on the roof offsets the building’s energy consumption.
