Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer and the State Historic Preservation Office honored Walter French with a 2026 Governor's Award for Historic Preservation.

Presented annually during National Historic Preservation Month, the Governor's Award for Historic Preservation recognizes outstanding achievements in historic preservation across Michigan. Principal Ann Dilcher, AIA, LEED AP, APT RP, accepted the award on behalf of Quinn Evans during a ceremony held in Heritage Hall. State leaders commended the team for transforming the former Walter H. French Junior High School into a beautiful landmark and community space featuring affordable housing, a children's daycare, and office and commercial space.

Across our two peninsulas, these awardees are helping us build a stronger Michigan by preserving the places and stories that define our state. They're creating affordable housing, honoring traditions, creating jobs, and growing our economy. Today's awards are a reminder of Michigan's rich past and bright future.
GRETCHEN WHITMER, GOVERNOR OF MICHIGAN
