Quinn Evans celebrates the retirement of Jeffrey Luker, AIA, LEED AP, honoring 40 years of leadership, design, and dedication to the firm.

Jeff joined Quinn Evans in 1985. During his four decades, he formed a vast portfolio covering a wide range of disciplines and interests, contributing to the cultural and community fabric. He has worked on everything from diplomatic missions and historic government buildings to learning facilities ranging from preK-12 to higher education.

He was one of the firm’s first employees. What started as an early role as an intern in Ann Arbor, Michigan, quickly turned into a decades-long career at the firm. In 1987, Jeff relocated to Washington, DC, where he built a lasting career rooted in leadership, partnerships, and community engagement. He was elevated to a principal of the firm in 2001. He was elected to Quinn Evans’ Board of Directors in 2009 and served through 2021.

Jeff earned his Master of Architecture from the Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning at the University of Michigan in 1986. He also holds a Bachelor of Arts from Dartmouth College (1980) and a Bachelor of Science from the University of Michigan (1984).

He has played a pivotal role in various transformative civic and institutional projects, including the renewal of the U.S. Treasury Building, the Embassy of Japan Chancery Annex B, the French Ambassador’s Residence, and the Seal and Sea Lion Exhibit at the Smithsonian's National Zoo. Through these projects, Jeff adopted a deep commitment to preserving and enhancing meaningful places.

Over the last two decades, Jeff has focused on educational work and committed to the renewal of DC Public Schools and local college and university facilities. He contributed to innovative projects, including the Marie Reed Community Learning Center, McKinley Middle School, and the Living and Learning Residence Hall at Gallaudet University in Washington, DC; Meridian High School in Fairfax, Virginia; and the Neval Thomas Elementary School, currently under construction in Southeast Washington, D.C. Each project has provided a lasting impact by strengthening the communities it serves.

Jeff Luker has been part of the Quinn Evans team from its earliest days, making extensive contributions throughout our 41 years. From the beginning, Mike Quinn appreciated Jeff’s unique style, bringing together a spirit of friendship and passion for the work, with his deep commitment to the firm. Multiple generations of QE friends and colleagues agree, and wish Jeff all the best in his future adventures.

He continues to serve on the AIA|DC Committee on Architecture for Education and as a visiting speaker and studio advisor at Howard University while remaining active with the American Institute of Architects and the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
