Quinn Evans associate principal Devan Anderson, AIA, was interviewed by The Detroit News as president of Preservation Detroit, reflecting on the organization’s mission and its work as it marks its 50th anniversary.
In the Q&A, Anderson discusses the organization’s efforts to preserve historic places across Detroit and how attitudes toward preservation are shifting as more people recognize its financial benefits, including the use of historic tax credits. He also shares Preservation Detroit’s goals for the future, including restoring buildings themselves and collaborating with the city and community on preservation policy.
I think a lot about historic preservation lately has pivoted a little bit to be not just about buildings... and to be more about all the stories of a place and the cultural preservation...Those sorts of cultural preservation are really important, and something that I think we're excited to focus on moving forward.
