An article in Baltimore Fishbowl highlights Quinn Evans’ selection from a competitive group of design teams, recognizing the firm’s extensive experience in preservation and adaptive reuse. Jack Danna, chair of UNITE Mount Vernon, shared that the team presented “the most comprehensive and practical approach” to caring for and preserving the historic Victorian Gothic architecture of the church while also finding ways to improve accessibility.
Mount Vernon Place Church was designed by Thomas Dixon and Charles Carson and built by the B. F. Bennett Company. Originally completed in 1872, it is a significant landmark within the Mount Vernon Place Historic District and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972. The scope of work outlined by UNITE Mount Vernon includes community and stakeholder engagement, assessment of existing conditions, and development of a Conceptual Master Plan.
This effort will establish restoration priorities, accessibility strategies, building systems concepts, and an adaptive reuse framework that supports the future needs of the church. Led by the firm’s Baltimore office, the Quinn Evans team will be headed by principal Anath Ranon, FAIA, LEED AP BD+C, along with senior associate Allison McElheny, AIA, LEED AP BD+C, and associate Sara Langmead, AIA, PE, LEED AP.
